11 July 2007

We are only two months away from the 34th running of the Erie Marathon and everything is in place for another great race.  Have you registered yet?  Early registration ends July 15th. If you have registered, please check to make sure that we have all of your information correct by reviewing it on our web site:
www.erie-runnersclub.org/marathon/info_2007.php .  This registration information will be refreshed again on July 16th.

Each finisher of the marathon and half marathon on September 9th will be awarded a very unique finishers medal that is actually laser engraved wood.  The overall and age group awards are going to be equally unique this year and are also made of wood.

GU2O flavor of the year is lemon-lime, available at every aid station.

The weather forecast for this years race is for cooler than average, but not like the mid 50’s that we had last year.

If you haven’t registered yet for this year, you can do it now at https://secure.marathonguide.com/register/ErieMarathon/ before the early registration expires on July 15th.

We hope to see you in September.

Jan Comi and Mike Vieyra
Your co-race directors

15 May 2007

ARE YOU READY for the running of the Erie Marathon at Presque Isle on September 9, 2007?  The same race committee is back again this year and they are ready for you.

There will be two changes to this year’s race: 7:00 AM start will be re-instituted this year and the course will return to its historical two loops of the park.  Bridge construction caused us to re-route our course in 2006.

Many things will remain unchanged from prior years:

  • Very flat and fast course with plenty of shade.
  • Subway and Panera Bread products will help you recharge after the race.
  • Aid stations – 27 official aid stations with GU2O and water.
  • Champion Chip timing by Runners High for accurate and timely results – splits at 10k, half marathon and 20 mile point.
  • No big crowds to cheer you on but the ones there are very sincere with their words of encouragement.
  • USATF certified course with accurate mile markers for each mile.
  • Affordable early registration entry fees: $40/marathon and $30/half marathon if registered before 6/1/07.
  • Advertising – we don’t spend a dime on advertising because we have you to help promote our race.  Tell a friend, or even better yet, bring one with you.

If you haven’t registered yet for this year, do it now: https://secure.marathonguide.com/register/ErieMarathon/ before the early registration expires on June 1st.

You can check out some of the pictures from last year’s race at our photo service provider: www.runphotos.com .

The Erie runners club also puts on a half marathon on July 15th that runs almost an identical course as the marathon in September.  Use this as a training run by signing up at: http://www.erie-runnersclub.org/RaceInfo/upcoming_events_view_detail.php?eventID=31.

Your race directors,

Jan Comi and Mike Vieyra

Erie Marathon at Presque Isle

We have closed the books on the 2006 Erie Marathon at Presque Isle and we were able to donate $4,000 to local food banks this year just in time for the holiday season. A big thank you to the marathon committee which included: David Comi, Toni Vieyra, Frank and Joan Mainzer, Dale Werner, Dottie Mahoney, Peg Hardesty, Vonnie Lorah, Dan Kweder, Dr. Todd Shatynski, Pam Morton, Bob and Sue Pryzblak, Linda Huegel and John Lytle. Also, thanks to all the participants for enabling the ERC to help local charities.

Time Warner Cable has increased their support of ERC activities and is the new primary sponsor for the 2007 Erie Marathon at Presque Isle. Subway continues to be a big sponsor in providing the all-you-can-eat fest at the post race marathon party – the next time you order at Subway let the manager know that you, as an ERC member, appreciate their support of our club functions.

All of the bridge work on PISP is to be completed by this spring so this means that we will be returning to the traditional loop course and will not have to run the sidewalk trail this year. Some folks actually liked that trail section of the course last year.
