INDIVIDUAL MARATHON

Event: Each participant will run a full USATF certified marathon (26.2 miles) at Presque Isle State Park on Sun., Sept. 12, 2004 at 7:00 a.m. Cert. # - PA 02014 WB.

The Course: The start/finish is at Beach One (Old Lake Road) and the course will consist of two complete loops of Presque Isle State Park. This marathon is quite possibly the flattest course in the country with no major elevation changes at all. It is certainly a Boston qualifier and has a course record prime to be broken: Male - Terrence L. Stanley 2:19:27 (1978); Female - Marjorie Tennyson Podgajny 2:55:15 (1981). Please note that all participants must maintain a 12 minute mile pace. Championchip timing by Runners High.

Commemoratives: Entrants will receive a micro-fibre shirt. In addition, all marathon finishers will receive a finishers medal at the finish line, and will be mailed a finishers certificate suitable for framing.

Awards and Results: First, second and third places overall (M & F); First place masters division (M & F); Top Wheelchair (M & F);
Individual awards (M & F) in the following age groups:19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over.

 
u The Rich Martino Memorial Award will be given to the first place male and female first time marathoner.

u A special award will also be presented to the first Erie County male and female finisher.

HALF- MARATHON – Run or RaceWalk

The Event: Each participant will run or racewalk a half marathon (13.1 miles) - one loop of Presque Isle State Park. Half marathon participants start with the marathon at 7:00 a.m. The racewalk division will be judged and running will result in disqualification. Certification # - PA02012 WB.

Commemoratives: Entrants will receive a micro-fibre shirt.

Awards and Results:

1/2 Marathon Run: First, second and third places overall (M & F); First place masters division (M & F); Individual awards (M & F) in the following age groups: 19 and under;20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over.

1/2 Marathon Racewalk: First five male and female finishers. No other awards in this division.

5K FUN RUN/ WALK

The Event: A non-competitive 5K fun run/walk starts at 7:15 a.m. at Beach #1. Course will be contained to Old Lake Road which will be closed to all vehicular traffic. No awards will be given for this event, but an official clock will be in operation and results will be available. All entrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

For Your Safety: The race committee reserves the right to reject any entry. No bicycles, roller or in-line skates, or vehicles of any kind are permitted on the course. All water stops, support facilities, and other personnel will be instructed to close their station at a time corresponding to a 12- minute-per-mile pace. Those who expect a marathon time of greater than 5 hours will be allowed to start at 6:00 am. These early starts will not be eligible for awards.

Runner Services: Stations serving water and sport drink will be placed along the course at approximately one mile increments.

Race Day Parking: Adequate free parking will be available at Presque Isle State Park, but please be sure to follow parking regulations and be aware illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed by park police.
Weather: The average temperature for September is 61 degrees with an average high of 70 and an average low of 53. (Source: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).

Our host hotels offer participants a late check-out time of 2 p.m. on race day. Be sure to ask for the Marathon rate when making your room reservations. We're working on links to hotel websites now. Until they're available, online booking and reservations are available here. Be warned, there are no guarantees of marathon rates using this online reservation link. But you can check availability and probably save a buck.

Packet Pickup: Packet pickup and late registration will be held at the El Patio (Host Hotel - 2950 W. 8th St.) on Friday from 5-8 p.m., Saturday from noon until 7 p.m., and at Presque Isle from 5:30 to 6:45 am. ChampionChip pickup will be Sunday morning from 5:30 to 6:55 am.

Pasta Party


The Colony Pub & Grille will once again host the pasta party for the Erie Marathon at Presque Isle. This year an all you care to each buffet - three types of pasta, salad, bread & butter and drink(coffee, soda or ice tea) for $9.50, which includes taxes and gratuity. Information & directions available at packet pickup.

Proceeds will be shared with Erie’s Second Harvest Food Bank


Please note: All entry fees must be in US funds drawn on a US bank. No foreign checks will be accepted

We ask for a little bit of extra information.  Disclosure of this information is voluntary.  Marathon statistics help us plan for things like water stops and aid stations, and may be published in a little "did you know" sheet for the race packet.  Championchip information is required if you plan to use your own ChampionChip.
