2006 Discover Presque Isle Duathlon

This year’s race is a 5-kilometer run, a 20-kilometer bike, and a 5-kilometer run beginning at 8:00 A.M. on Sunday, July 30, 2006. (Discover Presque Isle Weekend)

Due to the reconstruction of the Misery Bay Bridge, this year’s race will start and end at the Beach 1 parking lot. Both 5-kilometer runs will be conducted on the Old Lake Road and the bike portion will consist of two loops from Beach 1 out to the Duck Pond Crossing and back. The bike race will take place on the park’s main road with one lane closed to traffic during the race. Each participant and volunteer receives a unique, high-quality race premium. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners and the first, second and third place finishers in each age group, relay and mountain bike categories.

Pre-registration deadline is Saturday, July 22nd 2006. Day of race registration will be accepted for an additional $5 entry fee. Any balance due to late registration will be collected race day. RACE INFORMATION:

  1. Race entry fees are non-refundable and are the property of Presque Isle Partnership. The race will not be rescheduled if cancelled due to unsafe road conditions.
  2. Bike riders must wear ANSI approved helmets during the entire bike ride segment of the race. Participants must be wearing their helmets before exiting the transition area.
  3. The racecourse will not be completely closed to automobile, pedestrian or bicycle traffic. Participants must be alert at all times.
  4. Bikers must ride in the designated lane with the traffic flow. Crossing into the other lane may result in disqualification.
  5. Each run segment will be one loop of a measured 5 km course.


Race Course:

5k Runs

We have set the 5k runs to start from the Beach 1 parking lot and run along the Old Lake Road and back to the Beach 1 parking lot.

20 k Bike

The bike race will consist of two loops from the Beach 1 parking lot along the park main road to the Duck Pond Crossing and back to Beach 1.

Each run segment will be one loop of a measured 5 km course. Timing will be done using chips with 3 splits provided. No split timing for transition.

There will be one aid station near the transition area for runners. N o drafting, bikers must maintain two bike lengths between bikes. Bike Race is all on the main road
